Statement of Intent
When designing my bus stop posters, I will make sure that
it aligns with the rules made by the ASA. For example, my posters will not
contain anything that is unsuitable for younger viewers (such as violence or
distressing images), and they will not cause offence to specific social groups.
It’s important for me to comply with these rules as my posters will be used for
bus stops, meaning they will be viewed by all ages at all times. In TV
broadcasting, the watershed begins at 9pm to protect children from unsuitable
material such as violence, strong language, and graphic imagery. Due to this,
my TV Thriller will be broadcasted after 9pm as it is likely to include
elements of violence, darker themes, and occasional strong language.
For my show to successfully appeal to my target audience
of 16–25-year-olds, I will ensure to portray the younger characters in a
positive way. For example, in the show my protagonist is aged 18-20 and will be
a morally correct character who seeks the truth within the town. Furthermore, I
will make the majority of my posters include at least one younger character to
attract my audience and communicate that the main characters are between 16 and
25. In my posters I also plan to include both males and females to appeal to
both genders rather than exclusively targeting one group.
To promote that the show is a thriller, I must use
typical thriller poster conventions to attract the attention of thriller fans.
Due to this, I intend to use a dark colour scheme – possibly browns, greys and
greens and use low key lighting. Furthermore, I must choose my fonts carefully
as if it appears too ‘bubbly’ or doesn’t match the atmosphere of my poster, it
could change the way the poster is viewed. Possible fonts I plan to experiment
with include ‘Cinzel’, ‘Griffiths’, ‘Equila’ and ‘IM Fell Types’. I will
download these from dafont.com as they are not available on Photoshop.
